I have whole posts dedicated to this. I completely agree. The plot line has been there since season 1.
like!!! half of the season 2 episodes had the thesis of “reaponsibility and power are tough to handle— are you ready?”!! TUE, Masters of All Time, Beauty Marked, King Tuck, Identity Crisis, and Reality Trip are ALL post-Reign Storm season 2 episodes…. Reign Storm follows a plot set up previously (what with vlad collecting the Skeleton Key in an earlier episode, the Fright Knight episode establishing the castle and whatnot) AND sets up what looks like a future plot (vlad taking the crown and stuff) which is very out of the ordinary since, other than big episodes like TUE (which its worth noting ALSO implied future Dan plots that never came), dp HATES inter-episode continuity. IM JUST SAYING

I also think Danny being King is why he got his powers again at the end of Phantom Planet.
There were interviews that confirmed this, but I’ve mostly heard about them. I haven’t seen or read them for myself. The head writer wasn’t/ isn’t allowed to speak about what he had planned in detail, but I understand gray ghost was supposed to have been endgame, Vlad, who has the crown, would have proclaimed himself king, and the final season would have been more serious with Dan returning in the finale. D-stabilized was one of the episodes originally designed for that lost season, which is why it feels so out of place in the season 3 we were given and why it leaves so much unresolved (it was supposed to happen much earlier in the season)
It really is heartbreaking to think about what could have been for this series…
danny phantom fanfiction writers/readers are allowed to use the term cozy horror bc theyve been saying shit like “what a long day… time to settle down with some vivisection!” and “aww 🥺 he’s having his free will and original personality stripped away for the sake of love and he can’t even tell so the audience has to look on in horror! <3<3” and “feeling self-indulgent… I should make my favorite character discover his own body is rotting right under him! but he should enjoy it!” for years

i find this hilarious considering The Cuil Theory was a popular meme back in 2012, with a similar format as a popular Welcome To Nightvale meme. “weird” posts would usually have an additional reblog with “and now, the weather” in reference to WTNV but for a few months, “weird’ posts would be ended with “i give you a hamburger”. the peak of the meme was around late october of 2012, the actual video itself being published february of 2012.
